Bake(s) of the week

Reading about Simon's baking at the weekend reminded me that I have yet to post this week's baking...in fact, I have two bakes to show you.

First of all, Nigella's chocolate cherry cupcakes. These were especially yummy, although I didn't have the glace cherry to put on top, so I used some mini chocolate buttons.

Then, tonight, I've been making some shortbread to give to my boyfriend tomorrow - it's our 2nd anniversary.

And, as we're going out tomorrow night, I thought I'd reprise the jam sponge puddings....

I must make the chocolate cherry cupcakes at some point.

  2. Those cupcakes look delicious! I have Nigella's Domestic Goddess cookbook in my locker at work and pull it out on my breaks for inspiration. I hope that Ken bakes you some shortbread that says 'Marry Me' one of these days. Can I say that?

  4. Darlene - so do I, but I've not yet seen him bake anything. I'm still waiting for my birthday cake (birthday was 5 months ago).

Chocolate cherry cupcakes definitely worth making but you do need to use as much jam as she says even though that seems excessive otherwise they don't seem very cherry like.

  8. Hi Verity, this is my first comment here - came across your blogs from Simon T's, and have been really enjoying them. All your baking looks delicious. Would you recommend Nigella? I've been thinking about buying one of her books for a while but haven't quite got round to it yet...

  9. Hi Sophie, thanks for popping in. Nigella is good, but many of the best cakes and recipes are available from bbcgoodfood.com In practice I find that the recipe books that are best to read aren't the best to make cakes from!

  11. Thanks for the tip on the BBC website. I'll take a look. I'm moving out of New College accommodation for the first time in five years (yikes!) in September, so I'm looking forward to doing some proper cooking and baking once I have my own kitchen...

  12. It's our anniversary this weekend, and I'm tempted to go out and buy some heart-shaped ramekins. I'm not a great biscuit maker so I usually just draw a heart on a sponge cake, but the mini-puddings look great...perfect with a glass of red wine.

  13. I got mine from Amazon - I really recommend them as they make making puddings/cakes romantic really easily! I must have made those in about 3 minutes (plus baking time!). Might try souffle in them...

I have a plethora of heart shaped kitchen equipment - mini cake tin, ice cube tray, teaspoons...and have my eye on some heart shaped silicon cupcake cases from John Lewis!

  14. Darlene - I told Ken what you said, and he promised to make my birthday cake on the next Saturday I'm at work. This however due to swaps and hols is not until 19th Sept...
