Christmas cards 1 (preparing for Christmas 4)

This year, partly for reasons of economy, and partly because I've really got into doing crafty things over the last six months, I decided to make my own Christmas cards. Earlier in the year, I decided to do some cross stitch cards for "special" cards, for close family members - if I had started in January, I might have had time to do cross stitch cards for everyone I know, but with over 60 cards to send, I think I would have got a little frustrated stitching the same Christmas tree over and over again. I have done a number of cross stitch cards of different designs, which will feature in posts over the coming Thursdays (I think there may be 4 Christmas card posts if that is not too tedious!), but today I want to show off the bulk of my cards, which I even got K to help making! It was very simple idea, and very cheap, although I did end up with a bright green thumb and index finger. I bought 50 blank cards on ebay, a bottle of green spray paint and found a Christmas tree stencil via google. I combined these three things, having covered the sitting room with newspaper, and here is the result!

Now I just need to start writing them!

  1. I am so disorganised this year, serious card envy here! I find it hard to stick to one theme so I spend ages making individual ones from my own designs - much more sensible to go for one style.

  2. This is SO cool! Do you mind if I steal your idea? I need to get some Christmas cards going soon :-)

  3. Teresa - it was purely an economy plan - I couldn't afford more than one can of spray paint!

Willa - of course not - I doubt we have the same friends! There are plenty of stencils out there to use.

  4. I love them! I esp. love their simplicity. We pulled out all of our rubber stamps last weekend to start making "the prototype" for our card this year. It always gets way too complicated way too fast, but this year I'm going to have my kids join in the assembling process so we can get them done quicker.

  5. Love the image of you and Ken making Christmas cards. Getting back to basics and a personal touch is showing the true spirit of the season, well done, Verity!

  6. I love the idea of making your own Christmas cards! My aunt and I were just reading an article in the newspaper yesterday that said Christmas cards weren't worth the effort people put into them, and we just couldn't have disagreed with that more. I think Christmas cards are lovely.

  8. Those came out really pretty :) Sixty cards - wow, that is a lot to handmake. I decided to just make them for blogger swaps, close friends and parents, but I might adopt your spray paint idea for work now instead of using bought cards.
